Black Friday=Sleeping in!

Hey all, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and if you went shopping this morning, I hope that you survived! We spent the holiday with my family, enjoyed some turkey and watched a little football. It was a good time and a great opportunity to remember all that we have to be thankful for. I just wish that I would treat everyday like I do this holiday… if only I would dwell on the Grace and Mercy of God, the love of Christ and the coming Kingdom the way that I should. These few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas always try to pull my focus toward the light but the world just pulls right back, as if it has some claim to my focus. I pray that we won’t get caught up in the consumerism of the holidays but will set our hearts and minds on the things of God, Lord give us the strength to do so!

One last bit of news, I may not be in Nashville right now but everyone is still working hard. Jeremy just let me know that Garett Buell and Mark Polack are recording drums/bass today at Paul Eckberg’s studio… I’ll let you know how it all goes!

Enjoy the weekend and I’ll talk to you soon!

Recording: Day 5- Picture day!

I’ve got a few minutes while Jeremy is recording some piano so I figured that I’d post real quick. We recorded some guitar stuff this morning, just some overdubs and stuff. Eric Peters stopped by to say hi during his morning jog… it was great to see him again and hopefully I’ll be able to get him back over here for background vocals in the next few weeks. He was also sporting a killer beard which caused me to rename him “The Dread Pirate Peters”. I dig it.

After lunch, Jeremy’s wife Kierstin did my photography for the record which went really well. She’s great and Jeremy was a pretty killer assistant and location scout. A good time was had and I think we got some great photos.

We’ll be working till 8pm or so tonight to get as much done as possible so if I don’t post again tonight, I’ll post this weekend. This week has been amazing but it’ll be so great to get home to Rhonda… at least she’s coming out with me in December. Well, I need to get back to work so thanks for stopping by and I’ll talk to you soon!

Recording: Day 4- Man, I’m tired!

Just a quick note, I’m still at the Casella’s (we just watched Grey’s Anatomy) and I’m getting ready to head back to the hotel. We had a great day, we finished what we had to do on the last 3 tracks and tomorrow will be piano/picture day. Everything’s sounding great and we’re right on schedule, if not ahead of it. I’m starting to feel pretty tired though, the hotel life wears you down after a while.

Well, my laptop is about to die so I’ve gotta get it charged… talk to you later!

Recording: Day 3- The Kenny

Today was an amazing day… Kenny Hutson (formerly of Vigilantes of Love) came by and recorded pedal steel, mandolin, electric guitar and mando-guitar on 5 songs. I’ve gotta tell you, I was already excited that he was going to work on this record but I had no idea just how good this guy is. He just completely blew me away and I couldn’t be happier with how the songs sound now. They’re really coming together and I think we’ll be in great shape by the time I head back home.

Tomorrow we’ll be recording piano on a couple of songs and maybe get another song or two carved out. We still have Andy Osenga coming in at some point to record a bunch of stuff and we also have to go to Garett Buell’s (of Caedmon’s Call) to record percussion and bass (with the awesome Mark Polack). So we have a lot to do but we’re trucking along right on schedule. So until tomorrow, here’s a few more pics for you…

Here is Kenny Hutson rocking out on the pedal steel…

and then mandolin…

Here I am rehearsing a song on ‘Cliff’, my trusty Martin guitar…

Here’s Jeremy’s dog Sam taking a break after a long day of work… we’ve gotta abide by union rules after all!

And this is where we kept the amps while Kenny was recording to get the best sound possible… we lovingly refered to it as ‘The Cocoon’

Lastly, here’s a list of stuff that we’ve gotta get done… it’s good to see a lot of it finished!

Take care!

Recording: Day 2- Electric Boogaloo

Another day of hard work is done and I am relaxing at the hotel before I head out to dinner. We started early this morning and got cranking on the songs right away. We finished Guitar/vocals for 4 more songs and they’re sounding AWESOME (if I do say so myself). We also had possibly the best pizza ever for lunch. Tomorrow we’ll work on a couple of songs before Kenny gets there to record… I’ll make sure to get lots of pictures since he’ll be playing about five thousand different instruments.

Time to head out for a bite to eat, talk to you later!
