Current listening

These are the records that I’ve been listening to the most over the last few weeks. However, it’s by no means exhaustive since my iPod is set on shuffle most of the time. Tally ho!

In no particular order:

1) Bruce Springsteen: Live in Dublin
I loved the Seeger Sessions record but we didn’t get a chance to catch that tour. Thank The Boss for this record (and DVD)! This is a fun set of songs with a few classic Bruce tunes redone in the Seeger Sessions style and an army of musicians that sound AMAZING together. Great stuff.

2) Paul Simon: Graceland
This is one of my favorite records of all time and I decided to revisit it after the Paul Simon special on PBS last week (a Library of Congress tribute dealio). A cool folk/world music sound and a title track that is easily one of the greatest songs of all time. “And I say losing love
is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you’re blown apart, everybody feels the wind blow”.

3) Corinne Bailey Rae: Corinne Bailey Rae
I first saw her on Saturday Night Live and was really surprised at how great she was. A breezy, soulful voice and some fantastic players… it makes for great easy listening on the road.

4) Feist: The Reminder
Casella turned me on to Feist while we were driving to a show and I really dug it. Not long after I picked up this record and I’ve been a fan since. I love her voice, there’s just something really different and interesting about her that pulls you right in. Very cool record.

5) Jeremy Casellla: Recovery
Speaking of Casella… this is his latest record and I still can’t put it away. A beautiful and moving collection of songs that accomplishes the nearly impossible… it’s actually unique.

6) M. Ward: Post-War
I picked this up on the recommendation of a friend (I think it was Geof) and I really dig it. The song Rollercoaster makes me happy.

7) The Police: Everything they’ve released
Rhonda and I are going to see them in a couple of weeks with a few friends. So I’m listening to all of their records to get ready… still one of my favorite bands.

8) Andrew Osenga: Letters to the Editor Vol 1
Osenga is a friend. He’s also nuts. And by “nuts” I mean a genius (and nuts). That’s the only way I can explain how he took story ideas from his fans, turned them into amazing songs and recorded them in a week or two. Not to mention that he also used fan submitted “webground” vocals for a song. Lastly, it’s fantastic and really shows just how great a storyteller he is. A crazy, musical mad scientist genius.

Happy listening!
Joe

PS. I’ve been updating the site lately so if anything is a little wonky, just let me know. Thanks!

Joe: I’ve definitely gotten into Feist. I’ve got a couple live shows from her and will get some studio stuff very soon. VERY good.

Oh, and you’re welcome for the M. Ward. Mike got me into them. [Well, Mike and Fred Wilson.

As for The Police … let me know which show you attend, I’ll be sure to find any and all recordings of it on the Internet for you. :)
