Snow Day

Rhonda is home from school today because of the snow/ice storm last night. We’re enjoying a nice, lazy day… playing with Callie and catching up on a few shows/getting ready for Lost tonight. I’ve also been listening to the new Springsteen record and looking forward to his Super Bowl gig. My initial reaction is that it’s pretty good, some really great songs but there’s a couple of clunkers for me (Queen of the Supermarket just seems way too corny). There’s some brilliant songs on there though, especially the bonus track The Wrestler.

So it’s a good day to stay inside, drink some good coffee, listen to some music and enjoy time with your loved ones… and that’s just what I’m going to do.

New U2 Single

U2 cover

I’m a huge U2 fan, easily my favorite band of all time. I especially love when U2 gets into experimental mode (Achtung Baby/Zooropa/Pop), which they seem to be in for No Line On The Horizon (along with producers Lanois and Eno). Today they put up their new single from that new record and it’s really great… I mean REALLY, REALLY great. Can’t wait to hear the rest!

Listen to Get On Your Boots now!

Love the drums, love the guitar, love Bono’s vocals. This is going to be killer!

I’m all aTwitter

After some prodding from friends and a momentary lapse of sanity, I finally set up my Twitter page. If you’ve ever wanted to know what mundane thoughts run through my head during the day or what I’m eating for dinner… this is for you!

It’s a pretty exciting week here… not only are my Ravens in the AFC Championship game but Battlestar Galactica’s last season starts Friday! Yes, I’m a geek and yes, I’m proud of it.

Oh, and American Idol is on again tonight… for those who watch it. Or DVR it while they are at bible study and then watch without commercials after they get home and put Callie to bed. Not that I would do such a thing. ahem.

A new year means a new best of list!

It’s that time of year, a time full of lists. I was just talking to someone the other day about our favorite records/movies of last year and we agreed that it was a somewhat slow year for music. Still some great stuff but nothing like this year could be (with new U2 and Springsteen!).

So here’s some of my favorite records of last year, in no particular order…

Favorite albums 2008

Radiohead: In Rainbows (yes, I realize this was my favorite record of the year before… but it came out in stores in 08 so it counts! and it’s ridiculously amazing)
Bob Dylan: Tell Tale Signs (a great collection of outtakes from the Lanois sessions… Oh Mercy/Time Out of Mind)
Brian Wilson: That Lucky Old Sun
Beck: Modern Guilt
Neil Diamond: Home Before Dark
Bon Iver: For Emma, Forever Ago
Fleet Foxes: Fleet Foxes
She & Him: Volume One (this one surprised me)
Vampire Weekend: Vampire Weekend
Coldplay: Viva La Vida
Gnarls Barkley: The Odd Couple

Ok, that’s it for now. I might put up a favorite movie list after I see a few more but I think Dark Knight is still the one to beat. I’ll also be posting news soon about how you can download my new EP right here for free!

Hope y’all are having a great New Year and go Ravens!
