Nothing Hurts Like The Truth

Words and music by Joe

No one said it’s easy for these roots to be torn up from the ground
When they’ve held on so tight to you that they fight to keep you bound
And all you’ve ever known comes apart at the seams
Unravels who you thought you were and who you thought you’d be

Now I can’t help but wonder what made me hide my head in the sand
Was complacency the illness or just a symptom of this sinful man
Because ignorance brought no comfort and solitude dulled the sword
But blindness is no alibi when the truth knocks on your door

Nothing hurts like the truth
Once it gets a hold on you
It takes the old and makes it new
Yeah, nothing hurts like the truth

I admit that I was wrong to not look past the surface of things
Guilty of believing that the ends will justify the means
Because living by the spirit is easier said than done
And these compromises have only led to my confusion

Repeat chorus

You see I need to be told things that I just don’t want to hear
I need to be shown a mirror and I need it to be clear
Because I need a Savior more than I need therapy
I need to know who I am so that I know who I need

Repeat chorus
